Deltaville is a cool little backwater boating town. Very laid-back. Population 500. Population boats - several thousand. Two west marine stores. We had 2 great days of t-shirt weather to get the boat in the water, re-rig the mast, step the mast and re-rig everything on the boat and tune the rigging. This requires a lot of work and took the 2 full days. At the end of each day we rewarded ourselves with a seafood dinner with wine at Cocomo's - the favorite seaside hangout. There is Chesapeake water everwhere you look from the rinky-dink roads we drove on in the Volvo 90 Cross-Country courtesy car. The folks at Norton Yachts, where we are right now, are very nice and reasonably priced... We had them rig a spinnaker Halyard (for the rope to raise the big poofy sail --- for nonsailors please be advised this is the last time I will say things like poofy to explain stuff - my sailing friends are laughing at me - you can google the sailing terms if you want to know - I may use"thingy" occasionally however if I have a brain cramp and a writing deadline(self imposed)) and a flag halyard to fly quarantine and courtesy flags and my NYC burgee.
Today we did a major shop for food and beverage and some west marine goodies - new full finger sailing gloves, spinnaker sheets, cut through anything rigging knife, 5 gallon diesel can (I will carry 8 gallons spare - enough for a day), electronic charts for the chartplotter, updated copy of Skipper Bob's Anchorages for the ICW, etc. I also bought a Tow-Boat US membership ($149) which will give unlimited towing if needed throughout the US hope I don't need it but a simple grounding can cost $600 so this is good insurance.
Tomorrow we will put the genoa back on the roller furling, secure and tape all the turnbuckles, mount the motor lift and the motor mount and wash the boat. If we are done early and the weather is nice we will plan a days sail south from here. If either answer is no, we will stay till we feel like going. This is great!
Congrats on getting the boat rigged.
ReplyDeleteOne question that I was meaning to ask: Did you do any prep to the hull for saltwater?
A new chute? I hope it is red!
